New Fully digital DDX amplifier, the UDP320

We have received a lot of enquiries on when our UDP80 fully digital amplifier will be back to stock. So we are quite excited to share that we have a new version coming soon! The UDP320 is an upgraded UDP80, capable of 2X150W with USB and SPDIF inputs. This is not a DAC+amp in one, the digital DDX technology omits the need of a DAC.
How does it work? This fully digital amplifier is a PWD (pulse width modulation) amplifier that has no A/D conversion, no preamp and no analog signal path before the final output stage. It’s kind of like a DAC with high power output capable of driving your speaker directly. But it’s different from other amps that are sometimes called powerDACs, as those are normally regular amplifiers with a DAC built inside.
The benefit of this technology is that the output is very clear and natural sounding and with a very compact size. There are fewer parts required which explains the small size, and also makes it possible to sell this great sounding amp at a low price.
The UDP320 has an upgraded output stage compared to the previous version. It now use the same output stage as the T4 amplifier.
The amp requires an external power supply, a wide range from 15V to 56V DC is accepted. You’ll get lower distortion and higher output with higher supply voltage, so we recommend 48V to 55V for optimal performance. You can use the SMPS300RS 48V if you’re open to a little bit of DIY to connect everything together. Or the 60V adjustable power supply is also a great low noise power supply supply.
The UDP320 will come in a case similar to the udp80 but with individual speaker connection like on the UD80.

    I have the same problem, and if I plug my similar FX audio D802, the noise disappears so the UDP 320 is faulty. I asked for a replacement or reimbursment today. Laurent

      I have the same problem. Really anoying. First I thought One of my planar tweeters was damaged but after Tyringe other amps it stod cleat it was the udp320. I will contact Hifime for a refund or replacement.

    Hi all.
    I have used this AMP since day one, but sometimes the right channel are making “scratchy” noise. Same sound as if your tweeter coil was running hot and moves on the magnet gab. Whit the AMP on, i can switch the right and left speaker, and the scratchy noise follow. If i power down and up the AMP one or twice, the noise disappear. Not by the volume knob, but by removing power totaly and power back on. Any that have same experience ?

      We have experienced that this can happen if the amp doesn’t boot up correctly. It can be resolved with rebooting the amp (remove power completely and turn back on). If you keep it in standby mode with power connected then this won’t happen. We’re trying to find out what causes this.

      I have the same,
      IS there a good permanent solution found in the mean time or do we have to live with an amp that hisses seriously from time to time ? (comparable to a bad volume pot effect kind of)
      I’m running it on a 19V laptop PSU that gives no issues at all when powering an Alientek D8,
      No PSU 48 V available to me to test the difference in PSU’s / supplied voltage comparison.

      site note : the speaker terminals are too close placed to each other I find

    since the STA320 is used, is there a way to access it (through USB) and to setup the DSP ? Idea is to run 2x UDP320, with active crossover on the amp itself, so I would just need a “Y-optical cable” to feed the amps with the same signal. I guess the USB port itself would not pass through the functionality. But does the PCB has points for the direct programming connection to STA320?

    Hi guys, thanks for the overwhelming response! We have now started production and should have the first batch ready to ship in the first week in June. Sorry it is a month later than we aimed for, because we made some further revisions and tweaks.
    We will post some more data and information soon.

    I have two questions:
    1. Is it possible to use this amplifier in mono (bridge) mode? The sta516b datasheet shows maximum power up to 400 watts BTL (3 Ohm).
    2. Is it possible to make i2s input also? I will use this amplifier after DSP (i2s output) and I want to avoid unnecessary conversion i2s to spdif.

      Hi. The output can not be bridged in this configuration the chips are used. And it doesn’t support direct i2s input. We have made it simple to avoid complications and software bugs.

    I am a bit afraid that, because of the light weight and small size of the amp, the position of the amp is guided by the tension of the cables that are connected, and will always be skewed to one side or move if you move a cable etc.

    A little bit bigger housing, and a bit more weight, for example, with an build in power source it would be a more sturdy / classy amplifier.

    please think about an 2.1 solution. i really don’t want to make passive crossovers.

    best solution would be to offer a 2.1 version with 2x STA516. the super clean 1 volume knob design should stay. but simply add (maybe to the back side) crossover and subwoofer gain adjustment knobs or something

      In additional to USB input it has a SPDIF Optical TOSLINK input. You can send a digital signal from a TV, Apple airport express, Chromecast Audio etc over optical.

    ooh, nice. I’ll have at least one, maybe three, but they have to have either coaxial SPDif input or alternatively i2s internal connectivity so I can fit my own coax interface.

      Hi, thanks for the feedback. This version only have optical SPDIF TOSLINK input (+USB). We can consider later if we can make another version with coax.

      Hi, yes bluetooth would be nice, but it won’t happen on this version. You could use an external bluetooth (or wifi) receiver with optical output.
