SMPS Switch Mode Power Supply
The Connexelectronic Switched Mode power supplies (SMPS) are designed specifically for audio where the quality of DC voltage is of greatest importance for sound quality. They provide a very clean DC with minimal ripple/noise, much less than other industrial SMPS.
The SMPS500R is very efficient with an efficiency from 91% to 95% depending on voltage model, (measured at half load). This makes them run cooler and waste less power. They also benefit from a small form factor and low weight.
It can output 500W continuous, 650W peak power and 800W short-time peak output. Output voltage can be adjusted 10%. That means +-5% in each directly from the factory set voltage.
SMPS500R use state of the art, very efficient LLC Series Resonant Converter Topology. Due to the soft-switched topology used, the SMPS500R has very low EMI noise, lower losses and is more compact than a similar power rating classic hard-switched SMPS.
Usage requirements
The SMPS requires to be connected to a load (the device you’ll power) for it to start and run correctly. There are different versions for 230V and 115V mains.
SMPS500R comes in both single voltage and dual/differential voltage versions. Be sure to select the right model. With the dual voltage version you can not use only a single of the voltages, it should only be used with devices that require a differential +- DC input. Note the total voltage between for example +-36V is 72V.
Alternative products with even higher watt power output is the SMPS800RE (dual output only). And another lower power version is SMPS300RS (single output) or SMPS300RE (dual output)
Auxiliary output
There is also a lower power auxiliary power output with around 11V – 14VDC.
This aux output voltage is proportional to main output voltage (2/5 for 28V version (28V/5*2=11.2V) and 2/7 for 38V version(38/7*2=10.9).
If you adjust the main voltage +-10% then the aux voltage will follow.
Note: The max continuous current for the aux output should not exceed 500ma, and the total capacitance of the circuits connected to the aux output should not exceed 2200uF, otherwise the on board fuses might blow.

This power supply worth buying, works very good with the Sure AA-AB32291 2x250w per channel. Will send pics of the project Modified Kenwood KA-88 integrated amp. This has been a fun project!!!
