The UT23 connects to your computer via USB and sends out an optical SPDIF signal. There is no DAC involved, just the USB to optical feature.
Compatibility
It works in USB Audio Class 1 (sample rates up to 96kHz/24bit) and works without drivers with all major systems and programs; Windows, MAC, Linux. It appears as an audio device with stereo outputs and can send optical audio from any program from your computer.
The output is optical 3.5mm connector. We include a cable TOSLINK to 3.5mm and also a TOSLINK to 3.5mm adaptor, so that you can use both if your source has the bigger TOSLINK optical connector, or a 3.5mm optical output.
The output also supports sending Dolby audio 5.1, AC3 streams.

Just to say the UT23 now working perfectly after discovering that the Audacity audio editor had to have selected it in its config options.
I am moving from old 2012 Mac Mini with integral S/PDIF Optical o/p to new M2 Mini without this, a few annoying weeks discovering this .Thank you !

I am very happy to report that this works perfectly for providing optical audio out on the Playstation 5!
I use this to send audio from my PS5 to my computer, so that I can listen to audio from both my PS5 and computer, mixed together.
I’m very happy that this does work, because no other such USB-to-SPDIF device I have tried has worked on the PS5.

It does exactly what it promises. Good manufacturing at nice price. Super friendly customer support. Very fast shipping. Offered with an optical cable in the box. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you !

I bought the UT23 to match up with my previously purchased UR23.
The UT23 gives me an “Optical-out” port to match the UR23’s “Optical-in” port.
Both boxes are connected together using an optical cable and each is plugged into USB ports on my computer.
No need to install drivers as both were instantly recognised as separate sound cards.
Using a recording program I purchased long ago (Audacity program is a free alternative) I can now take any digital sound signal on my computer and record it.
The recording is digitally perfect. The streaming zeros & one’s are not converted to an analogue signal at any point in between. It remains zeros & one’s throughout its recording journey. Nice.
The UT23 is not as hard to find box of tricks as the UR23, but together they are a match made in heaven.
Highly recommended.
